'Be the change you want to see in the world' Ghandi
Long bike rides are dangerous for me; under the influence of endorphins my brain begins to focus for the first time all week; my mind drifts from one monumental topic to the next; world peace, health care, love, careers and sex.
It was under these conditions on a long sunny ride up coast highway 101 that the birth of
Ganesh Goes to India for Challenged Athletes was conceived. I revisted one of my grander goals: a 2100 km unsupported bike journey around India to help others. Unlike most matters, I vocalized this goal to my cycling partner, Marcus Scully. In less than a pedal stroke, Marcus proclaimed his particpation in the ride and proceeded to convince me that I could work for 5 weeks from cyber cafes in places I will probably never be able to pronounce. After passing one of the many inspirational challenged athletes in San Diego pedaling a bike up Torrey with a prosthetic leg, we had only one decision to make: do we go now or wait until monsoon season is over?
Our adventure is being entirely financed by us (unless we can find like minded corporate sponsors to help with airline miles and bike equipment). Our goal is to raise $10,000 to help challenged athletes live healthy and active lives. We realize our active lives and good health are gifts. We also believe world change starts with strengthening the minds and bodies of individuals. If you're active, you already know what exercise has done for your physical and mental well-being. For many of us, it's what gets us through each day. Let's help others build self-esteem, self-worth and general well being by donating to the Challeged Athletes Foundation. You can read more about our journey and donating on our
website or our
donation page. Namaste.
